What's Cookin'?

What does every girl need in the kitchen? A fancy apron to put on right before the guests arrive! They don't need to know that you slaved away in the kitchen five minutes before!

My grandmother, Midge, has a huge collection of antique aprons that my sister and I would always play dress-up with.  Little did I know that 20 + years later I would be equally obsessed with aprons! (Oh and cooking, baking, and sewing!)

Now, I enjoy sharing my love for hostess aprons with all of my friends and family! These will also be available in my Etsy shop very soon! If you would like a customized one, please email me at peanut.stitches@gmail.com!

(And, yes, this is an ACU apron that I designed with the unit patch and name tape).

Fly Away!

Porter has an obsession...with Batman.  Everything has to be Batman.  And, what does every superhero need? A cape. And, when your little superhero comes up and asks, "Mommy, can you make me a Batman cape so that I can be cool like him?" How on earth can you say no??

Then, when word got out that Porter had his own superhero cape, his friends started asking their moms and dads for their own cape! And so, I had to help in making little superheroes!

If you know of any superheroes who need a cape, I will soon be selling them in my Etsy shop! I can customize them with pretty much anything that your little one can think of!  All you have to do is ask! If you are interested, send me an email to peanut.stitches@gmail.com.

Dear Santa...

"I have been a good boy!" has been heard numerous times around the house in the last few weeks.  On Christmas Eve, Porter got the chance to write his letter to Santa and ask for the "Batman cave", "Batmobile", "paints", and a "train for mommy" that he has been talking about for the last three months.  First, he had to put out the cookies:

Sneak one...

Get extra cheesy with Daddy:

And then sit down to write his name:

And then ask Daddy to write out all of his requests:

And, when the letter was all done...

He had to fold it up:

And put in the stocking labeled "Letter to Santa":

And then the wait began...

Not too bad for a 3 1/2 year old, eh? In bowling that is! We have discovered Porter's favorite game to play.  He gets so excited when we take him to the bowling alley on post.  He knows what size shoe he wears, what ball he needs, and he is working on patience in between turns.
We went on Christmas evening with a couple of our good friends, and the little guy got a huge kick out of the cosmic bowling! He started dancing and did the BEST MC Hammer dance to the line and did this slick side fling of the bowl down the lane. It was so smooth, and I think that I got it on video.  The kid has some serious moves. Joe and I really do not know where he gets them from...

A little piece of California right here in Kentucky

I have developed an obsession. To sushi. Specifically, California rolls. I still have not been able to get over the thought of eating raw meat so I will stick with my imitation crab meat, thank you very much.

My sister, Megan, convinced me to try making it myself. After researching it for a few weeks (I am a research nerd), I decided to put the supplies on my Christmas list. And, my husband, Joe, being the awesome person that he is, bought me everything to get started!

I was scared to do the rice as I have never made rice outside of the microwave. I read the directions at least five times and jumped in:

Fantastic! Of course, I am not showing you the completely messed up first roll that I did! Even Joe cringed at it. But, after four rolls, I have become a pro at rolling sushi!

For future reference, this is a great video tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeSdErIP0kY

Try it yourself!!
